This is our official answer

Giving your company a name that will stand out and be remembered is a difficult task. When I first starting looking into building my own company, I faced the naming issue. Some of this was my own requirements for the name

First, I did not want to name the business for myself or for the nature of work that I do. I wanted people to remember the name which is not easy when your company is called "Brad's Graphic Design, Marketing Solutions, Tech Support and Website Designer". Instead I choose to find a name that as simple, yet allowed the business to grow to cover other markets as we expanded.

Not only did I want a simple name, but also on that had an open domain. Like Dell and Google, they claimed the domains boasting their business name. This allows for marketing advantages on the web.

Upon starting my search for short names with domain available, I found the selection to be short. Every name 4 characters and under was taken, five to seven letter domains were beginning to get rare. Research has showed that 6 or fewer characters are much easier to remember.

I gave many names the test, most were too long or where already taken. Maybe the problem was that I wanted to be unique, even on the international level. After finding several domains with "kite" in them that were available, I began looking for some combination that wouldn't be too hard to pronounce. I wanted customer unfamiliar with the name to feel comfortable taking a chance at the pronunciation.

Tykite happened to be the name. It was under 6 characters and was nowhere to be found online or in business searches.

Thanks, Brad
